Types of house windows

 Residential windows consist of a few parts: the main horizontal member is the top and is named the Head, the main vertical members which  form both sides of the window is named Jambs, the enclosure of of the window sash is named the Frame, the glass is called Glazing, the framed sheet og glass in a window is named a Pane, a single assembly of stiles and rails made into a frame for holding the glass is named a Sash, the main horizontal member is the bottom of the window frame and is named a Sill, and the Muntin Bar which is any small bar that divides the  glass.

Single/Double Hung 
At the double hung units both of the sashes are sliding vertically, on the other hand at single hung window only the bottom sash is slidin upward. You might consider a ventilation area which can be a small crack at one half of the total glass. In addition you can place screens on the exterior or interior of your window

Casement

The casement are hinged from the sides. These kinds usually have less air leakage than the sliding ones, that's because the sash is closed by pressing against the frame. on the other hand the casement  types provid significantly better ventilation than sliding windows of equal size,this is because the sash protrudes from the plane of the wall and you can use it to pass a breeze thru it, but the screens must be placed on the interior side. 

 

Awning
This type is hinged at the top and opens outwards. The awnings and all of the hinged type usually have lower air leakage rates than sliding ones because the sash closes by pressing against the frame. and the screens are well placed on the interior.. 

Bay Window
The bay window is unique because it is made from at least three windows. The side unit is usually protrudes from the wall by 30, 45 or 90 degrees. the center is matching with the building wall and is made by one or more windows.

Bow Window
This type combined from a series of at least four windows, usually five, installed in a radius on the building wall.

Skylight
This window type is installed on the roof and sometimes known as a roof windows and if they are installed properly they can give more light then any other window, however they give more heat too.

Slider
The sliding window is when the both sashes slide horizontally in a double sliding window. On a single sliding window only one sash is sliding.
